Session Description: This session will cover the basics of Environmental Justice and introduce climate justice topics. We will also explore the intersection of planning, discrimination, and the government's role in addressing environmental issues. Participants will learn about climate and environmental risks specific to Suisun and Fairfield, including an introduction to key data tools. The session will also review the discriminatory history of planning and its local impacts, highlight disparities in climate risk and resilience, and provide an introduction to climate science tools like CalEnviroScreen, Envirostor, and BCDC's Vulnerable Communities Mapping Platform.
Session Objectives:
Participants understand connection between climate, planning, EJ, and climate justice
Participants reflect on EJ challenges in their own communities
Participants have an understanding of science/advocacy tools, including grassroots organizing.
